1 From Prototype to Production with Eagle PCB Design
Workshop 3 & 4 PCB Layout: Layout of a single-channel CheerLights Wi-Fi controller Robert Mawrey

2 Open the Schematic Note (mistake from last class)

3 Create a Board Click generate switch to board

4 New Board

5 Board Case

6 Adjust Board Size to 1.5”x 0.8”

7 Group the Parts Together (to avoid free version board size restrictions)

8 Place the Photon on the bottom layer
Select “Mirror an Object” Click on the photon (click on the origin + for the photon) Check to make sure the photon labels are mirrored

9 Place the Photon at position (0,0)
Note that the Photon is mounted on the bottom of the board

10 Display the Grid (Size 0.05”)
View->Grid

11 Place the rest of the parts on the top of the board in the following locations
x (in) y (in) Rotation C1 0.620 0.130 C3 0.180 D2 0.950 0.225 90 U2 0.775 270 J3 0.400 J2 0.850 0.575 J1 1.200 180

12 Note new Routing Features in Eagle 8.1
Obstacle and Walkaround avoidance makes routing much easier Prior to using load the SeeedStudio dru file into Eagle

13 Draw your first copper trace

14 Draw the next trace

15 Draw the third trace (Making room for a future via)

16 Draw the forth trace (on the bottom)

17 Use copper pours to connect the power and ground traces
Draw a Polygon with the Bottom layer selected

18 Draw a second polygon on the Top layer

19 Name the Bottom polygon GND and the Top polygon 5V

20 Click Ratsnest Note how the copper (burgundy and blue) fills the top and bottom of the board and connects part to 5V and GND

21 Note that GND pads on the Top are still not connected to ground

22 Add a via to connect the top and bottom

23 Rename the via GND

24 Copy and paste the via

25 Connect the pads to the vias

26 To be continued … Error checking, labeling and silkscreen
