3 28 Jesus’ trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of
the morning [Friday morning]. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn’t go inside because it would defile them, and they wouldn’t be allowed to celebrate the Passover. 29 So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked, “What is your charge against this man?” (cont’d) --John 18:28-32 (NLT)

4 30 “We wouldn’t have handed him over to you if he weren’t
a criminal!” they retorted. 31 “Then take him away and judge him by your own law,” Pilate told them. “Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone,” the Jewish leaders replied. 32 (This fulfilled Jesus’ prediction about the way he would die.) --John 18:28-32 (NLT)

6 1. Jesus is the king over your curse

7

8 --Deuteronomy 21:22-23 (NLT)
22 “If someone has committed a crime worthy of death and is executed and hung on a tree, 23 the body must not remain hanging from the tree overnight. You must bury the body that same day, for anyone who is hung is cursed in the sight of God. In this way, you will prevent the defilement of the land the Lord your God is giving you as your special possession. --Deuteronomy 21:22-23 (NLT)

9

10 --Deuteronomy 30:19-20a (NLT)
19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. --Deuteronomy 30:19-20a (NLT)

11

12 So there is no condemnation for those who
belong to Christ Jesus. --Romans 8:1 (NLT)

13

14 2. Jesus is the king over your transformation

15

16 33 Then Pilate went back into his headquarters and
called for Jesus to be brought to him. “Are you the king of the Jews?” he asked him. 34 Jesus replied, “Is this your own question, or did others tell you about me?” 35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate retorted. “Your own people and their leading priests brought you to me for trial… (cont’d) --John 18:33-36 (NLT)

17 --John 18:33-36 (NLT) “…Why? What have you done?”
36 Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.” --John 18:33-36 (NLT)

18

19 God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving
his Son as a sacrifice for our sins [by making Jesus king over the curse]. He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit. --Romans 8:3-4 (NLT)

20

21 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but
let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. --Romans 12:2 (NLT)

22

23 3. Jesus is the king over your glory

24

25 --John 18:37-40 (NLT) 37 Pilate said, “So you are a king?”
Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” 38 “What is truth?” Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, “He is not guilty of any crime. 39 But you have a custom of asking me to… (cont’d) --John 18:37-40 (NLT)

26 …release one prisoner each year at Passover. Would
you like me to release this ‘King of the Jews’?” 40 But they shouted back, “No! Not this man. We want Barabbas!” (Barabbas was a revolutionary.) --John 18:37-40 (NLT)

27

28 18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory
he will reveal to us later. 19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. 20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, 21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. 22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 And we believers also… (cont’d) --Romans 8:18-25 (NLT)

29 …groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as
a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. 24 We were given this hope when we were saved. (If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. 25 But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.) --Romans 8:18-25 (NLT)
