2 Content Assessment of course CAD in the industry 2019.07.03.
Hajdu Flóra

3 Schedule of course 2019.07.03. Hajdu Flóra Week Topic Drawing CAD 1
Drawing CAD 1 Assessment CAD in the production process Assembly drawings Basic part modeling (contracted rectangle) 2 Geometric tolerances Sketching 3 Fits, allowances and tolerances Extrude (bearing housing, slotted plate) 4 Bolted connections Revolve (shaft) 5 Pins, keys, axial retaining rings Complex part modeling (crown nut) 6 Bearings Drawing – views, dimensioning (bearing housing) 7 Shafts, spline shafts Drawing – tolerances, surface finish (slotted plate) 8 Gears, springs Drawing (shaft) 9 Pulleys, taper lock bush, special connections Parametric modeling (clamping pin) 10 Welded, soldered, glued and riveted connections Advanced part modeling (sweep, helical sweep, cotter, bolt) 11 Seals Assembly modeling (bearing-shaft-plate assembly) 12 Mid-term test 13 Break (01.05) 14 Re-test Schedule of course Hajdu Flóra

4 Assesment 2 homeworks (14+20) – 34%
2 tasks on practical classes (2x3) – 6% 2 mid-term tests ( ) -60% Hajdu Flóra

5 Homeworks Successful homework is max. 14 and 20 marks
Task Start Deadline Homework 1 (14) (CAD model and drawing of a part) 1. week 11. week Homework 2 (16+4) (assembly drawing – by hand) 12. week Successful homework is max. 14 and 20 marks If the task can not be accepted (does not reach 50%), it can be re-done, but the maximum score is only 7 and 10 marks in this case. At least 50% of the maximum 34 marks (ie 17 marks) should be reached, otherwise the mid-term mark will be inadequate (signature denied!) Homework and re-done homework can only be submitted during the lecture period! In case of delay the achieved marks will be reduced! Hajdu Flóra

6 Practical class tasks Each task is worth 3 marks
Expected on the 5. week and 10. week. Hajdu Flóra

7 Mid-term tests Topics: CAD and drawing
Expected time 12. week, available score 20 and 40. For the grade at least 50% of the maximum marks (ie. 10 and 20 marks) should be reached on each tests, otherwise the mid-term mark will be inadequate (1) Inadequate test can be corrected with a re-test in the 14. week The maximum score of the re-test is 50% (10 and 20 marks) Inadequate mid-term test can be corrected with an exam during the examination period, but only if the other requirements (ie. 50% from the homeworks) are fulfilled. Hajdu Flóra

8 Grade 0 - 49 marks inadequate 1 50 - 60 marks adequate 2
marks average 3 marks good 4 marks excellent 5 Hajdu Flóra

12 CAD (Computer Aided Design)
CAD (Computer Aided Design): refers to a family of computer- based technologies that are used to create, analyse and optimize engineering design CAD programs provide a graphical user interface (GUI) that allows the user to create and manipulate of 2D and 3D geometry Produce engineering drawings Conduct basic enngineering analysis such as mass properties calculations Visualize individual parts and complex assemblies Hajdu Flóra

13 Development of CAD systems
1960s: companies in the automotive and aerospace industries started to use large mainframe computer systems 1970s: introduction of interactive computer graphics terminals, first CAM (computer aided manufacturing) software 1980s: more powerful PC-s based on Intel processors, small comapnies were able to afford new CAD systems 1990s: more advanced 3D CAD packages using solid modeling and NURBS (non-uniform rational B-splines), CIM (Computer Integrated Manufacturing) and concurrent engineering also came into use The integration of CAD into engineering and manufacturing advanced due to the development of high-speed networking and the Internet 2000s: advanced visualization systems such as Virtual Reality and more powerful systems that had better display systems and greatly increased storage capacity Development of CAD – development of CAM and CAE systems Hajdu Flóra

14 CAD systems CAD software permits the rapid exchange of design and manufacturing information regardless of where the team members may be located This global view and the teamwork it requires are key characteristics of manufacturing and design in the 21st century CAD systems consists of 2 major components: Hardware: physical components of the system: computer system, graphics display, input devices, output devices, other specialized equipment Software: CAD program, related support programs or utilities, operating system Hajdu Flóra

15 CAD programs Inexpensive 2-D drafting programs – more robust and expensive systems capable of sophisticated 3D modeling using solid and surface modeling Autocad, Solidworks, CREO, Catia, etc. Based on a mouse driven windows environment Ability to extend the functionality of the software by creating of aquiring specialized software modules kép Hajdu Flóra

16 CAD modeling Geometric models in 3D provide accurate information on the shape of a part or assembly for use in CAE or CAM All models are achieved using basic, underlying 2D and 3D elements CAD allows additional information (volume, surface area) to be easily determined CAD allows easy construction of orthographic views, pictorial images or drawings

17 CAD modeling CAD modeling Wire-Frame Modeling Surface modeling
Solid modeling Use edges and vertices First and easiest type Least suitable for manufacturing and engineering Allows the surfaces of a part to be accurately represented as geometric meshes Automotive and aerospace industry Creates 3D geometric models whose interior details are unambigously defined Produce parts that can be manufactured
