1 Making a model of the atom!
Bohr Models Making a model of the atom!

2 Bohr Model The Bohr Model shows all of the particles in the atom.
Created by G.Baker - The Bohr Model shows all of the particles in the atom. The nucleus is in the middle. Indicate how many p+ and no are in the nucleus! In a circle around the nucleus are the electrons. Electrons should have a minus sign or an e. + + -

3 Electrons have special rules….
Created by G.Baker Electrons have special rules…. You can’t just shove all of the electrons into the first orbit of an electron. Electrons are found in something called shells or energy levels. Each shell can contain a specific number of electrons.

5 Bohr Diagrams Find your element on the periodic table.
Determine the number of electrons – it is the same as the atomic number. This is how many electrons you will draw. 2008

6 Bohr Diagrams Find out which period (row) your element is in.
Elements in the 1st period have one energy level. Elements in the 2nd period have two energy levels, and so on.

7 Bohr Diagrams Draw a nucleus with the number of protons and neutrons inside. Carbon is in the 2nd period, so it has two energy levels, or shells. Draw the shells around the nucleus. 6p+ 6no

8 Bohr Diagrams Add the electrons. Carbon has 6 electrons.
The first shell can only hold 2 electrons. 6p+ 6no

9 Bohr Diagrams Since you have 2 electrons already drawn, you need to add 4 more. These go in the 2nd shell. Add one at a time – making sure you have a total of 6 e- 6p+ 6no

10 Bohr Diagrams Try the following elements on your own: H He O Al Ne K
