2. On the first day of school, Nate came to Miss Boyd's room to join the band, but the noise was too loud. Miss Boyd was mad. "Boys in the back, if I boil over, you will not get to join the band!”

3. When Nate felt in his bag for his flute, Jake’s head poked out, and the girl behind him saw that he was not a toy. "Is that a snake? A snake!" she cried.

5. Nate ran to get Jake. When he looked down the hall, he saw Jake go into the girls’ room. “Come back, Jake! Boys can’t go in there!”

11. “I’m sorry, Miss Boyd,” said Nate. “I didn’t mean to bring my snake
“I’m sorry, Miss Boyd,” said Nate. “I didn’t mean to bring my snake. Jake just sneaks into my bag sometimes. Please let me play my flute in the band.”

12. “You take that snake to the lab and leave it in the soil tub until after school,” said Miss Boyd. “Then hurry back to play your flute. We need you in the band.”

13. Nate was glad to get a chance to join the band. “Thanks, Miss Boyd
