Pressurised Systems (Gas) July 1, 2019

2 2. Safety of electrical and pressurised system:
General Safety Electrical Safety - General - Electrical Connections Gas Safety - Nitrogen Manual handling Personnel protective equipment (PPE) Warning Labels

3 General Safety: The generators are classified as non-hazardous for transportation purposes and as non-flammable for fire regulations. Any fire should be fought by means appropriate to the material causing the fire with the exception being the use of water. Storage - If the equipment is stored in an area where the environmental conditions fall outside of those specified in the user guide, it is essential that it be moved to its final location (installation site) and left to stabilise prior to unpacking. Failure to do this could cause condensing humidity and potential failure of the Equipment.

4 Electrical Safety:General
All generators must be visually inspected for signs of damage. Has the equipment been subjected to conditions for which it is not suitable, e.g. is it wet externally or excessively contaminated with dirt etc. Transit damaged equipment must “NOT” be electrically powered up. Generators should only be maintained by Parker domnick hunter trained service engineers.

5 Electrical Safety: Electrical Connections
Lab product Electrical Connections The mains supply cable is considered as the disconnecting device for this equipment. Isolation can only be achieved by disconnecting the cable from the electrical supply. Attach the mains supply cable provided to the IEC 320 socket located on the rear of the generator and connect to the electrical supply. If a cordset, other than the one provided, is used to connect the equipment to the electrical supply ensure that it is suitably rated for the application and in accordance with local and national code regulations. Maxi product Electrical Connections Connection to the electrical supply should be made through a switch or circuit breaker rated at 250VAC, 15A with a minimum short circuit rating of 10KA. All of the current carrying conductors should be disconnected by this device. The device chosen should be clearly and indelibly marked as the disconnecting device for the equipment and be located in close proximity to the equipment and within easy reach for the operator. Over current protection must be fitted as part of the building installation. This protection should be selected in accordance with local and national code regulations with a minimum short circuit rating of 10KA. The protective earth conductor should be longer than the associated phase conductors so that in the event of the cable slipping in the cable gland, the earth will be the last to take the strain.

6 Gas Safety:General Compressed air and gas generation equipment are safe if used correctly but can be dangerous if not used responsibly. The generators and systems present a range of hazards: - Unintended release of pressure from the generators, piping or a loose tube connection. -Trip hazard from trailing tubing. • Excessive noise within compressor rooms & air leaks. • Sudden pressure discharge whilst generators are operating. • Hot components within generators. • With the generators operating at pressure, they project a stream of high energy gas which can enter the bloodstream if projected against the skin (no foolish horseplay). Only authorized and trained personnel should service and maintain air & gas generation equipment.

7 Gas Safety:Nitrogen Nitrogen is not a poisonous gas but, in a concentrated form, there is a risk of asphyxiation. The generator produces a flow of nitrogen and air which quickly disperses in the atmosphere. However, do not directly inhale the output gas from the outlet pipe. Due to the nature of operation there is a possibility of oxygen enrichment surrounding the generator. Ensure that the area is adequately ventilated. Where the risk of oxygen enrichment is high, such as a confined space or poorly ventilated room, the use of oxygen monitoring equipment is advisable. A regulator is only to be used for a gas for which it was manufactured.

8 Manual Handling: Due to the size and weight of the generator both in and out of it’s transit packaging, caution must be observed during all handling procedures. Please ensure that any manual handling is carried by a minimum of two persons.

9 Personnel Protective Equipment:
Whilst carrying out either an installation, commissioning, repair or preventative maintenance it is recommended that PPE is worn at all times to include the following, where applicable: Safety glasses. Safety shoes. Ear Protection Lab coat / over garment. Plus any other site specific requirements in line with local safety regulations.

10 Warning Labels: The following markings and international symbols have been included on both the generator and in the user guide to both protect and guide operators, service engineers and the environment, these must be adhered to at all times where applicable.

11 Warning Labels continued:
