Antoni gaudi 25th June th June 1926

Early life Antoni Gaudi was born in Catalonia on the Mediterranean coast of Spain in 1852. At an early age, he showed an interest in architecture. in 1870 he went to study in Barcelona. He graduated from the Provincial School of Architecture in 1878.

How he became famous In 1878 Gaudi won his first commission, via a competition, to design lampposts for Barcelona’s Placa Reial. He also undertook a number of commissions for furniture, altarpieces and a showcase for gloves for the Comella firm for the Paris Expedition of 1878, it was from these works that his career began.

Gaudi’s 1st Masterpiece
Gaudi’s most famous masterpiece was the Sagrada Familia, it is still incomplete today. Gaudi took over the construction of the church in 1883, at the age of 31. Gaudi devoted most of his life to the construction. He changed the designs of the church. He worked on the church until he died. In 1926, when Gaudi died, only one tower was complete. Because Gaudi was constantly changing his design during the construction, most of his designs and models were destroyed in 1936 during the Civil War. Architects today, are still working on his in-complete masterpiece. When finished the church will have 18 towers.

Parc Güell In 1900 Guell commissioned his friend Antoni Gaudi with the development of his project. Gaudi worked on the garden village until 1914, when it was clear that the project was a commercial failure. Guell failed to sell a house. In 1918 the city acquired the property. In 1922 it was opened to the public as a park. Gaudi's amazing work is still opened to the public today.

Casa Batllo Casa Batlló is a key feature in the architecture of Barcelona. Antoni Gaudi constructed the building between 1904 and 1906. It is an iconic landmark in the city. The house is now a museum, open to the public, both for cultural and celebrating events in the function rooms.
