Strengthening Our Church Family
Family Day 2016 Strengthening Our Church Family
2
What Kind Of Family Do You Have?
All kinds of families Close and loose knit Functional and dysfunctional Supportive and non- supportive The church is a family. What kind of family would God have us be?
3
family that loves one another
Jesus commanded love amongst His disciples. John 13:34-35 – “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you’re my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
4
An Intense kind of love John 15:12-14, “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you….This I command you, that you love one another.”
5
Brother Love Romans 12:10 – “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor….” Do we each have an honorable, brotherly, preference for one another? For each and every one?
6
Loving From The Heart 1 Peter 1:22 – “Since you have in obedience to the truth purified your souls for a sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from the heart….” My obedience to Christ resulted in the purification of my soul. With my pure soul I am charged to love each and every brother fervently from the heart.
7
Because We are born of God
1 John 4:7 – “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.”
8
Family That Comforts Romans 1:12 – “…that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other’s faith, both yours and mine.” Encouraging one another by our faith.
9
That Forgives One Another
Colossians 3:13 – “…bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.” What does it mean to “bear” with one another?
10
1 Thessalonians 4:18 “Therefore comfort one another with these words.”
We encourage and comfort one another with eternal words concerning life with God in heaven.
11
A Family That Serves One another
Galatians 5:13-15 – “For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.”
12
Bearing One another’s burdens
Galatians 6:2 – “Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” I must carry my own load. I must bear my neighbor’s burden. Sometimes they will bear our burdens.
13
A note on the law of Christ
Do we remember the golden rule? Matthew 7:12 -- “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” Do we remember what this means? How do we apply it in the world and especially in the church?
