Objective: Students will watch the film version of Romeo and Juliet in order to comprehend the events and language Shakespeare uses in the second act. Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) Quiz on the prologue and the first scene of Romeo and Juliet. 2.) How would you react to unrequited (one-sided) love? Do you think Benvolio’s advice to Romeo is good? What prediction can you make about the play moving forward?

Do Now: Answer the question, turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share with the class. 2.) Lesson: Assign questions that are related to the Romeo and Juliet (1996) film. Students will compare and contrast the modern retelling of the story to the source material. 3.)Video: Watch the Romeo and Juliet film up until the end of the second act. 4.) Reflection: How does watching a performance of Romeo and Juliet change the way that we view the text? What do you think makes it more effective?
