1 Stakeholder-driven High Tech Innovation
Discuss the idea. I talked to Khalilah and she referred their consulting firm JFM.

2 Needs Assessment Surveyed 1) BMBFA Mothers and staff locally and in Shreveport to understand their experiences with the system and to find out what more that they might like. 2) Facilitators and hosts of current parenting and breastfeeding clubs to find out what they might want in a system.

3 Current System Limitations
Current system does not have sophisticated data analysis capabilities Reporting abilities are very limited No way of following-up with participants that either take a break/leave the program

4 Current System Feedback Participant
Online log-in process is perceived as easy to use by over 90% of participants Over 90% of participants Agree or Strongly Agree that the log-in process is short Majority of participants (81%) enjoy text messages from BMBFA and 20% of participants don’t receive text messages but are interested receiving them 2 *Multiple responses allowed

5 FUTURE APP CAPABILITIES
Participants can log-in at meetings, receive meeting reminders, breastfeeding tips, baby growth information Host can keep track of participation, and be more interactive with clients by collecting follow-up data Breastfeeding groups can keep track of those who miss meetings by sending follow-up questions/updates through the app 3

6 Host Priorities: Collecting Data & Reporting
App Development Support Host Priorities: Collecting Data & Reporting Among hosts, 83% are very interested in collecting data, while 12% will reconsider collecting data in the future Over 70% of hosts are unsatisfied with current data collection methods If given ability to collect data through the app, 67% of hosts are willing to pay a subscription fee, while 30% answered maybe 4

7 App Development Support
Host Priorities: Collecting Data & Reporting Hosts are interested in reporting outcomes, such as breastfeeding outcomes (98%), attendance and retention rates of club (88%), and pregnancy/breastfeeding status (80%) Hosts reported many ways they would like to use data, with the highest three areas in: program improvement (98%), communicate successes/opportunities with stakeholders (83%), and to obtain funding (78%) 5 *Multiple responses allowed

8 App Development Support Host & Participant Preferences
If there were a BMBFA app where you could easily log-in at meetings, receive meetings reminders, breastfeeding tips, and periodic follow-up questions, would you be willing to download it? App Development Support Host & Participant Preferences Majority of both participants (95%) and hosts (97%) believe if there were a breastfeeding group app to stay connected they would download it Over 70% of participants agreed they would use the app for checking-in on social media 6

9 App Development Support
Host & Participant Preferences Hosts (92%) and participants (80%) alike believe that those involved in the club would be very interested in receiving breastfeeding tips and information about the growth of their baby Breakdown--- 7

10 App Development Support Participant Preferences
Data shows that 53% and 25% of participants prefer to use their phone when logging in On the flip side, 37% of participants also agreed they prefer to log-in on the tablets provided *Multiple responses allowed 8

11 App Development Support
Host Preferences Over 75% of host would prefer to pay $40 or less a month for a subscription for an breastfeeding support group app 9 *Multiple responses allowed

12 What is currently working?
Participants enjoy… The short and easy log-in process Text communication from BMBFA staff Hosts can… Collect data on participants that come to meetings Can view if participant requested a referral Participants appreciate the accessibility of logging in online and the text communication The current system is limited in both the ability to provide participants with additional support information and the reporting abilities for hosts 10

13 Things to consider when developing Application
Participants would like… To receive reminders regarding local breastfeeding club meetings, breastfeeding tips, and information related to the growth of their baby To answer periodic follow-up questions through the app To check-in via social media through the app Hosts would like…. The ability to gain necessary information from participants to increase personal value of club meetings (i.e. Breastfeeding/ pregnancy status, referral opportunities, support system at home, benefits of attending group etc.) To follow-up with participants that may have missed meetings or dropped from the program To collect information at the first visit, 1 month after visit, 3 months after visit, 6 months after visit, and 1 year after visit To easily produce a report through the app The app subscription should be $40 or less per month for club host 11

15 $100,000 The goal of the Stakeholder-Driven High Tech Innovation Project (SDHTI) is to improve service delivery to positively impact maternal-child health outcomes. We understand the importance of monitoring performance on a frequent and regular basis in order to achieve the greatest outcomes and deliver the highest quality of services possible. A cutting-edge user-friendly mobile application will improve data collection, outcome reporting, and communication with program participants.

16 Takeaways The reason for collecting data is to inform your practice and enhance program delivery. Engage stakeholder input into your program or high tech design. Leverage the resources that are available to you.

17 Next Steps Get ready to move your most daring and most innovative, community and high tech ideas to practice. this panel will give you some examples
