1 DSOCS2 – Introduction to optimisation in Solidworks
Download Cantilever_Bracket_Model.SLDPRT from and open in Solidworks Programs > School Software > Engineering Sciences 2) Tools > Add-in Simulation 3) Create material: alloy stainless steel 4) Add parameters for the three dimensions (DP1, DP2 and DP3) 5) Change the values of the three parameters (and rebuild if necessary) 6) Setup a static study (rename) Fixed end Pressure load of 5MPa Mesh and run 7) Perform mesh verification using 2.5,5.0,10.0 mm and then 20.0mm and 1.25mm spacing

2 Setup and run an optimisation study
1) Setup a design scenario (What are appropriate upper and lower bounds?) 2) Save the design scenario and create a design table 3) Setup an optimisation study (rename) Minimise the volume using the static simulation, the following bounds 20 < DP1 < 50 10 < DP2 < 25 10 < DP3 < 25 and the following constraint 0.0 < SigmaVonMises < 3.0e+08 Nm-2 as the constraint 4) Additional constraints 0 < D < 0.21 (mm) 260 f < 400 (Hz)
