1 Session 5 The Holy Communion of Prayer
A Hunger for the holy Session 5 The Holy Communion of Prayer

3 Close Your Eyes As a deer longs for flowing streams, so I long for you, God. 2 I thirst for God, the living God. When can I come and appear before God? (Ps 42:1-2 CSB)

4 Then he said to them, “I have fervently desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. (Luke 22:15 CSB) Think of the Passover meal as our daily time with Jesus, Does this verse change how you see your daily time with Jesus?

5 What prevents us from quenching our thirst for Christ through prayer?
What is the only thing that quenches your thirst when you are thirsty? What prevents us from quenching our thirst for Christ through prayer?

6 Now he told them a parable on the need for them to pray always and not give up. 2 “There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God or respect people. 3 And a widow in that town kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’

7 4 “For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect people, 5 yet because this widow keeps† pestering me, I will give her justice, so that she doesn’t wear me out† by her persistent coming.’ ”

8 6 Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says
6 Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. 7 Will not God grant justice† to his elect who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay† helping them? 8 I tell you that he will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? ” (Luke 18:1-8 CSB)

9 “If our prayers lack confidence, it may be because we think God is too small to handle the immense petitions we bring Him or that He is really not concerned about us.” Calvin Miller How can we pray with confidence if we are not sure how God is going to answer our prayer?

10 My tears have been my food day and night,
while all day long people say to me, “Where is your God? ” 4 I remember this as I pour out my heart: how I walked with many, leading the festive procession to the house of God, with joyful and thankful shouts. 5 Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God.

11 6 I am deeply depressed; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan
and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar. (Ps 42:3-6 CSB) Why might our souls be downcast and disturbed despite our payers? What is the remedy?

12 Helmut Thielicke, pastor of Stuttgart, was in the bomb shelters, he heard his people from his congregation praying, “Lord save us from the bombs.” But their focus was on the attack, not on God.

13 He will delight in you with singing.”
17 The Lord your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.” (Zeph 3:17 CSB) Does this verse cause you to hunger and thirst more for God? Why or why not?
