Matthew 5:13 You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet.

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

John 17:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify You,

Westminster Shorter Catechism (1646-47) Question # 1
Q. What is the chief end of man? A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him forever.

God’s people have always been called out of the world to remain in the world showing how to live differently than the world.

John 12: So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

John 12: So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

Matthew 23:13 But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. For you neither enter yourselves nor allow those who would enter to go in.

Luke 20:46-47 Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.

Mark 7:6-13 Corban – Dedicated to God (to rip off their parents!)

Luke 16:14-15 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed Him. And He said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.”

Matthew 23:15 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel across sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves.

Matthew 23:24 You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

Mark 14:1 It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest Him by stealth and kill Him,

So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,
John 12:10 So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well,

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

John 3:20 For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.

Matthew 5:15-16 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father Who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:15-16 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father Who is in heaven.

For Our Consideration If you are born again everything begins to change – how? Why? How can living your daily life bring glory to God the Father? How can we let our light shine right where we live? How do you define a good work?

Prayer Focus Thank You Father for saving us and giving us a new life in Jesus. Thank You for the Word of God that trains and equips us. Thank You for works to accomplish for Your glory.
