2 What is it a Citation A citation is when you take a quote from another source and you use it in your writing.

3 How to use it Correctly You have to take the quote and then you have to put quotation marks around it. Next, you have to put the page number where you found the quote. Then, you have to put the page number and the authors last name all in the same parenthesis.

4 Here are some examples Here is an example I took from a National geographic Dogs can read facial expressions, communicate jealousy, display empathy, and even watch TV, studies have shown. Here is the right way to Cite this quote “Dogs can read facial expressions, communicate jealousy, display empathy, and even watch TV, studies have shown.” (page 1/12 Wei-Haas) This is an example of In-Text citation or a parenthetical citation.

5 Is it ok if I don’t use the quotation marks for a direct quote?
The answer is NO!!!!!! If you don’t do the steps then it is considered plagiarism.

6 This is the wrong way to cite things
A Dogs can read facial expressions, communicate jealousy, display empathy, and even watch TV, studies have shown. This is wrong because there are no quotation marks and there is no page number.

7 Tips for citing You should mention the authors name. If there is no author than you use the title. You should use the page where you took the quote from.
