Get to transfer level math in ONE SEMESTER! Accelerated Math Options Fall 2015
Presenter notes:
Introduce yourself to the class and let them know that you are there to tell them about some options they have for choosing a math class next semester
Then BEFORE clicking to the next slide, ask them what class they think they are going to take next semester. (Most students will either say they don’t know, or Math 25. Be happy if anyone mentions something else!)
If many students say Math 25, let them know that you are going to tell them about other options.

2. After Math 12, what’s next?
Make it clear that the classes students choose depend on their majors.
You can describe the pathway on this slide as the way that LMC math classes have worked for a long time.
The pathway on this slide is an example of what students have traditionally done if they have the majors listed in the yellow box.

3. After Math 12, what’s next?
This slide shows how there are even more classes to take after Math 30 if you are a math or science major.
(You might want to explain that Geometry is a prerequisite for Math 40, just like Math 30 is. Also, these two classes are listed side by side because they are considered to be at the same level. Both have a Math 25 prerequisite, and so they both meet the AA requirement. You may not want to take the time to do this, unless you ask if there are any students who are planning on majoring in math or a science.)

4. After Math 12, what’s next?
There are now two options for students interested in completing pre-transfer level math courses in ONE SEMESTER!
Explain how students MAY choose Math 25 after Math 12, but you want to let them know about options that will allow them to complete their pre-transfer math in one more semester.
Also note that students who need Geometry for Math 40 may have taken Geometry in high school, but may not have. So some students might need to take Geometry, either in one more semester before Math 40, or concurrently with 40. (No need to bring this up at this point in the presentation unless students ask about Math 40, Math 26, etc.) 4

5. Math 29
We have a second option that will allow you to get through the same material as Math 25 and 30, except this is one course instead of 2.
If you take Math 29 in the spring, just like Mathpath, you will be ready for a transfer level math class in the summer or fall. 5

6. How does Math 29 work? Who is Math 29 for?
One 7 unit course that covers Elementary and Intermediate Algebra
Meets AA/AS requirement (Math 30)
Ready for transfer level in 1 semester
Who is Math 29 for?
Any major
Anyone who wants/needs to get through Math 30
Willing to do extra study time on your own
So how does this class work?
It’s one class, but it’s 7 units. So you will spend more hours in class and in the lab than you do now in Math 12. (Schedule will be on handouts.)
Because this class covers the same material as Math 30, it counts towards an AA degree, and it meets the prerequisite for ALL of the first level transfer math classes, just like Mathpath or just taking a regular Math 30.
How is Math 29 for?
Math 29 is for students with any major, since it meets the requirement for Math 32, 34, 37 and 40, just like Math 30.
While Mathpath has the scheduled lab hours with your teacher, for Math 29 we expect students to be willing to study more on their own. 6

7. Math 27: Algebra for Statistics
We also have a course that is specially designed for students who need to take Statistics as their transfer level math (and not any other math classes.)
If you take Math 27 in the spring, you can take Math 34 (statistics) in the summer or fall, and you will have met your math requirement. 7

8. How does Math 27 work? Who is Math 27 for? This is a 6 unit course
Ready for transfer level Statistics in 1 semester
Who is Math 27 for?
Any math background (no Math prerequisite)
Any major that requires Statistics and no other transfer level math, such as psychology
(Not for business, math, sciences)
Take Math 27 and then Math 34 for an AA degree
Math 27 is a 6 unit course that prepares you for statistics in one semester.
This course is designed for students with any math background. So even if you do not pass (C or better) math 12, you can still choose Math 27 for the spring.
Just keep in mind that Math 27 is for students who only need Statistics as their transfer level class. So this class is not for students with science majors, math, or business.
Math 27 does not meet the Associates requirement, but if you take Math 27 AND Math 34, then you will meet the math requirement for your Associates. 8

You can register for any of these classes just like you register for other classes.
