What happened:
Two geologist died as a team of Geologist went on a desert tour in Fujirah (UAE). Three of them lost their way and went deep into the desert. They called their colleagues seeking help. They communicated their GPS coordinates and location to their colleagues. The team chief decided to go out on a rescue mission. They went deep into the desert and got their vehicles stuck in the sand. At this time only the chief reported the case to the company management.
Why it happened:
Failure to follow rules/procedures by team Chief not calling for help on time
Though they had enough water it was the extreme heat that took their lives
Learning Points:
Always have someone who knows the area well
Contact authority immediately if something goes wrong, don’t take chances
If you lost in the desert, do not leave your car; someone will come and rescue you
Have plenty of water and food
Acclimatize yourself to the weather
