August 2013 Other Guidelines for IEEE WG Meetings All IEEE-SA standards meetings shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws. Don’t discuss the interpretation, validity, or essentiality of patents/patent claims. Don’t discuss specific license rates, terms, or conditions. Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings. Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers, or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation. Don’t be silent if inappropriate topics are discussed … do formally object. See IEEE-SA Standards Board Operations Manual, clause and “Promoting Competition and Innovation: What You Need to Know about the IEEE Standards Association's Antitrust and Competition Policy” for more details. 11 EN & EN Reminder Most recent versions contain issues that must be considered 2.4 GHz “Adaptivity” requires all devices to utilize CCA mode 1 only 5 GHz Adaptivity also requires ED Power/PSD testing requires complex and or expensive tests These versions become mandatory on January 1, 2015 Wi-Fi and BT industries should get behind new versions that would begin voluntary status the same day EN v1.9.1 EN v1.8.1

August 2013 Amazon and Globalstar TLPS In spite of dependence on Wi-Fi for Kindle and Kindle Fire they are choosing to work with Globalstar, considering TLPS for a Kindle network technology Amazon is pressing Mignon Clyburn, the interim Chairperson, to approve the Globalstar petition before Tom Wheeler takes over at the FCC What can we do? Take a more public stance against it (article only mentions Microsoft objection) File an ex parte asking the FCC to reject the Globalstar petition to protect Wi-Fi Rich Kennedy, BlackBerry Corporation
