2 Facts about Crafts style
The Arts and crafts house first was build in the 1880’s The structure usually has 1-3 stories The arts and crafts house uses wood stone and bricks in its design. (All materials are real) The location where this style of architecture originated in Britain but at the turn of the 19th century migrated to the USA Some key features of this style of architecture are built in the house itself. The already installed light fixtures, fireplaces, low pitched roof and bay windows. Most of the features are on the inside because there aren’t many constrains on how the house looks on the outside, also only real materials can be used to built a crafts house.

3 Continued The Balance of most Arts and Crafts houses was informal and contained no pattern but most were still good to look at because their use of real materials. The Rhythm of the Arts and crafts house never consistent because the design constrains of an arts and crafts house were most for the interior so its up to the architect what the house will look like on the outside. No movement, Unity and contrast vary. The use of this style was almost always residential as this style was created to be a direct attack on Victorian style of house, No notable architects used this style besides the creator the style William Morris.

7 Distinctive features No towers or turrets because direct rebuttal to Victorian style This house also displays the features of a low pitched but triangular shape roof

8 William Morris William Morris Co founded the Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co. Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. profoundly influenced the decoration of churches and houses into the early 20th century. He was also a major to reviving traditional textile arts and methods of production. He also started the arts and crafts movement where the building of a house was less industrialized and more built with craftsmanship and not machines. Also on real materials could be use when building a Arts and crafts house.
