1 Gaining Achieved

2 For Achieved An appropriate comparaison question.
Draws a graph that allows features of the data to be described in relation to the question. (Dot plot and/or box and whisker plot) Writes 3 or more statements that describe comparative features of the graphs in context. Makes an inference about the population from the sample data.

3 The Problem (The Question)
“What is the comparison between …………….” Then describe the population. Definition of population: “The group (usually people) you are making predictions about.”

4 Analysis You must be able to draw by hand a dot plot or a box and whisker graph (preferably both). Link to how to use your graphics calculator:

5 Analysis I notice…… I notice…. Compare the spread Compare the shape
Compare the central tendency (median, mean) Comment on anything that is unusual (outliers, gaps)

6 Conclusion “It is too close to say if …….. the medians are similar back in the population” It is a fairly safe bet that the median of…… is larger than….. back in the population. Instead of writing “back in the population” It is best to name the population.

7 Evaluation Evaluate your conclusion. Does it make sense considering the context? Is your inference realistic? i.e. would you expect the same conclusion if you were to repeat with a different sample or sample size? Could your inference be extended to other similar populations? Why or why not? What could your findings be used for? What would be an interesting future investigation that leads on from your investigation?
