Warmup

4-1 Operations with Polynomials
Multiply, divide and simplify monomials and expressions involving powers. Add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.

To simplify an expression containing powers means to rewrite the expression without parentheses or negative exponents.

Monomial is a number, a variable, or an expression that is the product of one or more variables with nonnegative integer exponents IS A MONOMIAL IS NOT A MONOMIAL

Simplify. Assume that no variable equals 0.

Polynomial means the sum of two or more monomials.
Binomial Trinomial Polynomial The degree of a polynomial is the degree of the highest monomial term Example: 3xy4 – 7x4

If adding, take off parentheses first, combine like terms.
Simplify: Simplifying polynomials after adding, subtracting and multiplying polynomials. If adding, take off parentheses first, combine like terms. Redefine subtraction problems to addition problems by distributing -1 inside with multiplication.

When multiplying, make sure you distribute correctly
