“Information literacy is knowing when and why you need information, where to find it, and how to evaluate, use and communicate it in an ethical manner.” (CILIP Information Literacy:the skills updated 15/09/2008) “Information literate people understand more than how to find information, they understand its limitations and the need to examine how they use information, and they understand how to manage and communicate information. Information literacy is an essential and discrete dexterity – everyone relies on information everyday.” (CILIP A short introduction to information literacy updated 3/10/2007) Woodfarm High School Library 2013

Plan Define the task. Brainstorm what is already known, its relevance and other areas of the topic to be considered (KWL chart). Draw up a list of questions to answer - to get the right information you must ask the right question. Create a mind map if helpful. Make a note of keywords to use when searching.
