What is the coefficient of the green term? 20 Combine all like terms in the algebraic expression. 70x2 + 5x + 3

Simplify (or Evaluate)
Warm-up Simplify (or Evaluate) 4[3(x + 9)+2] =4(3x ) – the brackets go away and become parenthesis =4(3x + 29) =12x – we use the Distributive Property =12x + 116 (2b+5)-(8b+6)+3(b-2) = (2b+5)-(8b+6)+3b -6 – we use the Distributive Property = (2b + 5) -8b-6 +3b-6 = -3b -7 – combine like terms = -3b -7

Adding & Subtracting, Real Numbers
Sections 1.2 & 1.3 from Holt Algebra I
5
Homework Section 1.2, pg : 13-22 all, all
6
Number Lines Example: -3 + 6
First go to the left 3 spaces (go into the negative) Then move from -3 to the right 6 spaces (go towards the positive)
7
Absolute Value The Absolute Value of something is a number’s distance from 0. The absolute value of -5 is 5, and is written with a straight bracket on each side of the number: │-5 │ (The light orange boxes show the distance of the absolute value)
