3. Carnival/Carnevale <carne> + <levare>
Latin for “Flesh” and “to put away”
Catholics would celebrate right before lent and eat as much meat as possible.
This was a celebration of food and drink and many would dress up for the festivities.

4. Catacombs
Christians in Rome, who were not allowed to practice their religion, would bury their dead underground.
Catacombs in France later served as a quick fix to a health issue.
They even served as hideouts during WWII!
