2 Regulatory Update in Europe for Gigabit Application in the 60GHz Range
July 2006

3 Where we are ETSI TC BRAN has approved System Reference Document; Technical characteristics of multiple gigabit wireless systems in the 60 GHz range at its June 06 meeting ERM RM expected to approve this document at the Sept 06 meeting CEPT Has considered the draft SRDoc from ETSI Initiated technical compatibility study in its working group – first meeting in Sept 06

4 Maximum transmit power
Proposed Regulation Frequency band Maximum transmit power Duty cycle Channel spacing Notes A minimum spectrum requirement of 2500 MHz is requested to be implemented out of the total tuning range of 59 GHz to 66 GHz. 40 dBm EIRP maximum mean Power 43 dBm EIRP maximum peak 27 dBm maximum peak conducted power No restriction No restriction Measured over any continuous period of 53 seconds The maximum power is for an emission bandwidth of greater than 500 MHz. NOTE: A license-exempt scheme is proposed to the National Regulatory Authorities for applications other than aeronautical mobile and inter-satellite communications. Users may not claim protection from interference from other users within the same spectrum for this kind of application.

5 Compatibility study FREQUENCY BAND UTILIZATIONS 59.0 – 59.3 GHz
Passive sensors (satellite) (52.6 – 59.3 GHz) Defense Systems (59.0 – 61.0 GHz) 59.3 – 62.0 GHz Defense Systems (59.0 – 61.0 GHz) Fixed Links ISM Non-specific SRDs Radio LANs 62.0 – 63.0 GHz Land Mobile Radiolocation (Military) (62.0 – 64.0 GHz) 63.0 – 64.0 GHz Radiolocation (Military) (62.0 – 64.0 GHz) RTTT 64.0 – 65.0 GHz Fixed Links (64.0 – 66.0 GHz) 65.0 – 66.0 GHz Fixed Links (64.0 – 66.0 GHz) Land Mobile

6 Next Steps Once technical compatibility study has been completed, CEPT is expected to allocate spectrum for this application through an ECC Decision or ECC Recommendation Timescale from approximately 1 to 2 years
