2 What is FFA? …an organization of over 495,000 agricultural education students from all 50 states plus Puerto Rico & the Virgin Islands.

3 FFA History Highlights

4 1917 – Smith-Hughes Act Provided federal funding for the establishment of Vocational Agriculture in public high schools.

5 1928 – Future Farmers of America
FFA was established. The 1st convention was held in the Hotel Baltimore in Kansas City, Missouri.

6 1928 – Continued FFA was formed from the Future Farmers of Virginia.
Leslie Applegate of New Jersey became the 1st National President.

7 FFA History 1965 FFA and the NFA merge. NFA: New Farmers of America

8 New Farmers of America Organization for African-American males in high school agriculture classes. Merged with the FFA at the end racial segregation of schools.

9 FFA History 1969 1971 Girls are admitted into the FFA.
National FFA Alumni Association was founded.

10 FFA History 1988 Future Farmers of America changes its name to the National FFA Organization.

Completed minimum 2 year of Ag Ed Have a successful SAE in operation Hold a leadership position in your local FFA chapter Participate in 5 activities above the chapter level

Received State FFA Degree Completed minimum 3 years of Ag Ed Have graduated high school Successful SAE Earned $7,500 from the SAE or earned/invested $1,500 and worked 2,250 hours Scholastic record of “C” or better
