In December 1916, Prince Yusupov decided to kill Rasputin because of the damage he was doing to the Royal Family’s reputation. Rasputin was fed with poisoned cakes. He didn’t die. He was shot in the back... but half an hour later he “leapt to his feet, foaming at the mouth” and tried to kill Yusupov. Rasputin was shot several times and clubbed. He was then tied up and pushed through a hole in the thick ice over the River Neva. When the body was found 3 days later, it was reported that Rasputin had untied himself and there was ice under his fingernails.
