3 What is E.L.D? ELD= English Language Development
It is a program designed to help students who attain proficiency in English. How did your child enter the program? Home language survey Initial CELDT Assigned ELD level by teacher Students take annual CELDT

4 How does my Child exit the ELD program?
Reclassification Process: The steps completing the ELD program Grades 3-5 Step 1: student must test early advanced or advanced on the Annual CELDT Step 2: Student must receive grades 3 or 4 on their report card in the areas of language arts and math Step 3: Students must be an ELD 3 or higher Students must score a Basic or higher on the ELA- CST or read at grade level Grade k-2nd Step 1: student must test early advanced or advanced on the Annual CELDT Step 2: Student must receive grades 3 or 4 on their report card in the areas of language arts and math Step 3: Students must be an ELD 3 or higher

5 Consequences of not exiting the ELD program in Elementary
Placed into additional English classes in Middle School Not able to participate in elective or enrichment classes Becomes harder to reclassify in Middle school

6 How can I help my child do well on the CELDT?
Attend all 3 week s of Summer School which begins July 21. Make sure student has a quiet place to study and do homework Make sure students understand that the test is very important and encourage them to do their best. Make sure students receive a healthy breakfast and get a good night’s rest (minimum of 8 hours).
