1 Informational Text Project
Standards to be assessed

2 W Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content. The overall standard. I am assessing your ability to write informatively. All of the other standards go under this standard—like an umbrella.

3 With this standard, I will assess how well you: Introduce your topic
W A--Introduce a topic; organize complex ideas, concepts, and information to make important connections and distinctions; include formatting (e.g., headings), graphics (e.g., figures, tables), and multimedia when useful to aiding comprehension. With this standard, I will assess how well you: Introduce your topic Organize your ideas How your ideas are connected And any other formatting that would be useful for your presentation, i.e. heading, graphics, etc.

4 Appropriate to the audience’s knowledge of the topic
W B--Develop the topic with well-chosen, relevant, and sufficient facts, extended definitions, concrete details, quotations, or other information and examples appropriate to the audience's knowledge of the topic With this standard, I will assess the evidence supporting your ideas. Your information should be: Relevant, well-chosen Appropriate to the audience’s knowledge of the topic

5 W C--Use appropriate and varied transitions to link the major sections of the text, create cohesion, and clarify the relationships among complex ideas and concepts With this standard, I will assess how well you transitioned from one topic to the next. I will also assess the cohesion of your text. Meaning how well your pieces fit together and how they relate to one another.

6 W D--Use precise language and domain-specific vocabulary to manage the complexity of the topic. With this standard I will assess the vocabulary that you chose to use. You vocabulary should match your topic. Meaning you use words that are typically used to discuss your topic. No words like thing, that, that one thing, that place, or “like.”

7 W E--Establish and maintain a formal style and objective tone while attending to the norms and conventions of the discipline in which they are writing. With this standard, I will assess your ability to maintain the style you’ve chosen through your project, both in writing and presentation. This means your language and presentation form should be consistent throughout your writing and your project.

8 W F--Provide a concluding statement or section that follows from and supports the information or explanation presented (e.g., articulating implications or the significance of the topic). With this standard, I will assess your ability to give a conclusion that discusses the significance or implications of your topic.

9 L Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. As always, I will assess your conventions which includes grammar and usage.
