1 Journal 13 What is one interest that you had as a child that still interests you today? How has that interest grown with you? If that interest could become a career, what will you be doing?

2 Vocabulary Prudent Languish Architecture Internal conflict
Bildungsroman

3 Chapter Notes You will take chapter notes for all of Ch 6 & 7.
For every FOUR pages you will write a summary of something that happened and explain how it furthers the plot AND character development, and explain how it develops the theme of “finding one’s identity”. The author is showing the theme of finding one’s identity through Gogol’s interest in architecture since he was a young boy when he first visited Manhattan. This interest grew into a passion he then pursued in to college, grad school, and now as his career. Also, the author advances the plot by having Gogol invited to a party where he meets a girl names Maxine. I know she will be an important character to Gogol by the way the author describes his infatuation for her.

4 Student Workbook Directions: You must restate the prompts and use textual evidence that directly supports your response. What year is it? Describe Gogol’s status. Why does Ashima call Gogol to come home? How does the introduction of Maxine into Gogol’s life further contribute to the Bildunsgroman? How does Gogol’s response to Ashima’s request to come home further develop the internal conflict?
