2 Evidentiality The indication of the nature of evidence for a given statement. English has some sources which are optional such as: ‘I hear that’, ‘I can see that’, ‘it seems’, ‘reportedly’, etc. But these do not form a grammatical category. Some languages have a distinct grammatical category of evidentiality that is required to be expressed at all times. In some languages, evidential markers also serve other purposes, such as indicating the speaker’s attitude to, or belief in, the statement.

3 Evidentiality in Eastern Pomo
Evidentiality is a widespread feature of the languages of Americas. Eastern Pomo is one of the half a dozen Pomoan languages of California. It has four evidential suffixes:
