2 Fall Prevention Tips for fall prevention: Never leave infants alone on changing tables, beds, sofas, etc. Always strap children into high chairs, swings, changing tables, strollers and infant carriers Use safety gates for stairs Put infant carriers on the floor, not on tables or on other furniture

4 Bath Safety A child can drown in as little as 1 inch of water Never leave young children alone or in or around water (bathtubs, sinks,) Keep buckets of water out of reach of children Keep toilet lids closed

5 Child-proofing the home Cover all electrical outlets When cooking, keep pots/pan handles turned in and out of reach of children Keep balloons, plastic bags, chemicals and medication out of the reach of children Keep lids placed on trash cans

6 Sleep safety Place infant on back or side to sleep Choose a firm mattress for the crib Do not cover the infants head or face while sleeping Do not overdress the infant or place too many blankets in the crib while sleeping Do not put an infant to sleep on a waterbed, sofa, or soft mattress For more information, visit sidsprevention.com

7 Play safety Toys should be appropriate for the childs development (infants and toddlers play by putting things in their mouths so ensure there is no choking hazard) Avoid objects including balls, marbles, buttons, pea gravel on playgrounds, pellets from bean bags, and removable parts from toys. Check toys for sharp edges Toys should be safe and durable Toys should complement the childs ability to grasp and manipulate Toys should appeal to the childs senses
