2 Article I Quiz Review Article I, Section 1 – Vests all legislative powers in Congress Article I, Section 2: House of Representative members selected every two years Has the sole power of impeachment (Senate tries the impeachment) House of Representative member must be at least 25 years old Article I, Section 3: The President of the Senate is the Vice President The Constitution initially provided that the State Legislature would choose the Senators for each State

Requires Congress to meet once a year, with the first meeting to be on the first Monday in December HOWEVER, changed by the 20th Amendment to be the 3rd day of January Article I, Section 5: Neither house can adjourn for more than 3 days without the consent of the other house Article I, Section 7: All bills for raising revenue must originate in the House of Representatives

4 Article I Quiz Review Article I, Section 8 – READ and know what powers are enumerated in the Congress Remember that Congress may only make appropriations to fund the Army for no more than two years Also remember that the necessary and proper clause is contained in Article I, Section 8 YOU WILL BE SPECIFICALLY ASKED REGARDING WHETHER CONGRESS HAS THE POWER TO DO CERTAIN THINGS! Article I, Section 9 – READ and know the restrictions on power Habeas Corpus may not be suspended unless in cases of rebellion or invasion or the public safety requires it YOU WILL BE SPECIFICALLY ASKED REGARDING WHAT POWERS OF CONGRESS ARE RESTRICTED!!

5 Other matters Ex post facto is defined as a law that punishes individuals for prior acts that were legal when they occurred. A bill of attainder is defined as an act of a legislature declaring a person or group of persons guilty of some crime and punishing them without privilege of a judicial trial
