2 Exam Mechanics and Scope
30 multiple choice questions. 30 correct = 100%. All questions have the same value. The exam covers the whole semester with emphasis on the final 4 weeks About 40% of exam on lectures 11 – 14 About 60% of exam on lectures A formula sheet is provided as the last page of the exam booklet. It is the same as the one posted on the course web site. Otherwise, the exam is a closed book exam. The course syllabus (page 4) can tell you which sections in the text are included. Bring your calculator and #2 pencils for the SCANTRON forms. Circle your answers on the question paper as well as marking the SCANTRON form when you are certain of your answer. Do your analysis and calculation on the exam paper, using the backs of pages for extra space if you need it. You should show some indication of how you arrived at your answers. Make sure your name is on BOTH the SCANTRON and the EXAM BOOKLET. Put away and turn off cell phones, pagers, any other communication devices, noise makers, devices with cameras. There is no sharing of calculators. Students are not to communicate once the exam has started. Hints: Read each problem. Read it again. Understand what you have to do. Ask yourself if there an easy way to solve it and if you are assuming it is harder than was intended. Avoid having to erase answers on the Scantron cards; erasures on Scantrons usually result in a question scored as wrong. Mark the exam paper first and transfer answers you are sure of to the Scantrons when close to the end of the exam. First work the problems you know how to do, then come back and finish the others. Go back over your answers, checking for silly mistakes: missing factors of 2, marking wrong answers, algebra errors, wrong angular mode on calculator, etc……. These can cost you heavily on multiple choice exams.
