1 CLOSED SYLLABLE

2 Definition A closed syllable has one vowel followed by one or more consonants, the vowel is short. The consonants are closing the door on the vowel.

4 Show me Closed Raise your hand. Now close it into a fist. We will call this hand sign closed. I am going to show you some words. If you see a closed syllable, show me the sign. Otherwise, show me the sign for no. As you give the sign read the nonsense word. You will need to know the closed syllable rule for the vowel sound to read these make-believe words.
