3 Roots of Jazz There were different groups of people and different kinds of music during the 1800’s. People would work in the fields singing or on ships. People would even work on the railroads with hammers and hoes working to a steady beat.

4 Capturing the spirit of Jazz
Photographers and Artists tried to capture that very moment of excitement. Photographers would take pictures of musicians performing such as Miles Davis and the band.

5 Expression of Jazz Jazz can be expressed in many different forms and fashions. For instance, if you are trying to be funny, then you would express your emotions in a ballad. A ballad is a way to tell a story.

6 More expressions of Jazz
In some communities, jazz is used to explain the culture of that community. For example; in the city of New Orleans, jazz is used to tell the history of the Cajun or Haitian culture.

7 Jazz in the Modern World
In today’s society, we use jazz music with the addition of narration. In some jazz comedies, narrators tell the story while the jazz band plays the music.
