Shabby - run-down, well worn Della sat down on the shabby little couch. Ponder - to think on with care; to study For several minutes Della kept pondering this problem. Envy – desire to have something that is possessed by another  A queen with all her riches might have envied Della’s hair. Sacrifice – to surrender or give up, for the sake of something or someone else. These two sacrificed for each other the greatest treasure they owned. Ripple – a wavy or ruffled surface It rippled and shone like waves of brown water. Expenses - money spent for goods Expenses had been greater than she had figured. Yearn – To want something; To be filled with longing And her heart yearned for them.
