1 Online Classroom Using this online classroom responsibly means:
No profanity No posting inappropriate pictures/videos No negative posts directed at other students/teachers Using it for science class work ONLY Remember, once something is posted online, it is out there forever! The use of an online classroom will be beneficial for everyone, do not use it in a way that will get you kicked out or have the entire thing shut down for everyone.

2 Online Classroom Setup – Get a laptop
Go to Edmodo.com Click on “I’m a student” Type in your first and last name Type in your class code (on the board) Type your first initial, last name, and lunch number as your username Type your school password (Sp_ _ _ _ _ _) Raise your hand when you have completed these steps. I will let you know if and when you can click on the next step.

3 Cells and Organelles October 30, 2017

4 Objective SWBAT: compare the organelles of cells and understand their roles

5 Connection We learned in physical science that atoms are the building blocks of all matter. Today we are going to learn about cells, which are known as the building blocks of life. This marks the beginning of our life science unit!

6 Cell Theory – 3 Parts All living organisms are composed of one or more cells. The cell is the basic unit of structure and organization in organisms. Cells arise from pre-existing cells.

7 Cells Cells are the building blocks of life
They are defined as the most basic structural, functional, and biological unit of all living organisms Cells have parts, called organelles, that all do specific jobs for the cell to keep it alive

8 Check for Understanding
What are cells? What is the first part of cell theory? What is the second part of cell theory? What is the third part of cell theory? What do we call the parts of a cell?

9 Cell Organelles – Partner Work
Use your laptop and the websites posted on Edmodo to fill in the chart about cell organelles. Think about how each organelle must be important… “would a cell be able to survive without this organelle?” You may work with a partner if you would like, but you need to be seated at a desk!

10 Cell Organelles – Individual Work
Put your laptop away and go back to your seat. Write your paragraph on the back of your worksheet sentences. We know that all organelles are important, but what if you were a cell and could only choose three organelles to have? What organelles would you choose and why?
