Natural Selection Pt 1 -Natural selection is the process in which some organisms are naturally “selected” to continue to survive and some are naturally “selected” to die which can lead to certain traits becoming more or less common -Natural selection affects the expression or appearance of a trait, the phenotype, rather than on the alleles/genetics that produces that trait, the genotype
2
Natural Selection Pt 1 -A dominant allele for a trait over a recessive one in the genotype can determine the phenotype on which natural selection acts -When natural selection affects the phenotype, changes in the gene pool can occur and certain alleles can become less frequent leading to changes in the phenotypes (or traits)
3
Natural Selection Pt 1 -These changes in the gene pool are known as genetic drift -Genetic drift is the process in which the genetics of a group of organisms shifts towards a particular phenotype because natural selection has removed disadvantageous alleles

What do you think? Consider this question:
What determines whether an organism is able to continue surviving through offspring versus an organism which eventually dies out? Write down your thoughts about what you think may cause the above to happen. My thoughts: -predation -pollution -camouflage -catastrophic events -availability of resources -climate -technology -ability to reproduce -mutations -human -health/disease -shelter/hiding places -environment -occupy niche
