1 Huck Finn Discussion, 25-33 1. At the end of Chapter 24, Huck describes the welcome the townspeople give the duke and king, and says, “It was enough to make a body ashamed of the human race." 2. How does Huck feel about Mary Jane? What do you think it is about her that he responds to most deeply? 3. Describe Huck's crisis of conscience that leads up to his decision to write to Miss Watson. How does Twain use irony here to make his satirical points? 4. Explain Huck’s words, “You can’t pray a lie.” Why does Huck decide to "go to hell"?

3 5. On his search to rescue Jim, Huck tells Sally Phelps about an explosion, and she asks whether anyone was hurt. Huck says no, a “nigger” was killed. Sally expresses relief that the explosion was so “lucky” since no one got hurt. What is going on here? Why does Huck say this after the previous chapter’s events? What’s Twain doing? 6. When Huck sees the tarred and feathered conmen, what does he reflect as being problematic about having a conscience?
