Task Force V: Faculty & Staff Capacity Building Our Charge: –Provide recommendations to develop a capacity building plan for faculty and staff that allow the broad goals of the strategic plan to be met Capacity Building: –Increase the knowledge, skills, and abilities of our faculty & staff; including, but not limited to: training, professional development, and resource allocation

Task Force V: Faculty & Staff Capacity Building Our Vision: To provide sustainable support and expertise needed to integrate the following into CFANS Undergraduate Program teaching and service: Technology Instruction/Advising Methods and Techniques (formal and informal) Community and Industry Engagement Multiculturalism

Technology HOW TO… incentivize and create expectations to better use technologies in & out of classroom share and acquire best practices re technology in your work recruit/retain instructional designer to support instruction, advising, and student support efforts

Instruction/Advising Methods & Techniques (formal & non-formal) HOW TO… establish standards for advising integrate previous recommendations (Experiential Learning task force, 2008) incentivize and create expectations to improve instruction and/or advising share and acquire best practices re teaching and advising publish and/or present scholarship re instruction and advising

Community and Industry Engagement HOW TO… establish partnerships for engagement (extension, alumni, development, career services, central, industry, community) incentivize and create expectations to engage with industry and community share and acquire best practices re engagement efforts recruit/retain engagement coordinator to support engagement efforts

Multiculturalism HOW TO… establish competencies and standards for faculty and staff development, including metrics incentivize and create expectations to develop multicultural competencies share and acquire best practices re multiculturalism as it pertains to teaching, advising, and student support (including learning and teaching styles)

SUMMARY T entative R ecommendations: –Assess talent availability and gaps –Reallocate talent resources –Create comprehensive list of CFANS initiatives (experiential learning task force, blue ribbon committee, etc.) –Build in and perform undergraduate program evaluations –Create and reward collaboration for best practice sharing –Create career development plans –Hire Instructional Designer (funding acquired through NSF grant) –Hire Engagement Coordinator (funding TBD)

Whats Next? –Refine recommendations –Design position descriptions that outline specific skill sets, interests, and experience –Establish standards for development of faculty, staff, and programs –Suggestions?
