1 Edge plasma dynamics during L-H transition in the JFT-2M tokamak

Kobayashi (NIFS, National Institute for Fusion Science) ✓Using heavy ion beam probe, spatiotemporal evolutions of Er, Ln-1 and |φ| are measured. ✓Three kinds of transition dynamics: ① Limit-cycle oscillation (LCO), ② L-H transition, ③ dithering ELM. ~ Transition Sawtooth crash Dithering ELM Transition LCO Lissajous in (Er, Ln-1 ) field Spatial scale : 7 mm Time scale : O(100μs) Short time delay after Er increase Front propagation of turbulence suppression Similar phase relation in the LCO, L-H transition and dithering ELM. Large jump of |eρpEr/Ti| ~ 1 can trigger the L-H ↔ Small |eρpEr/Ti| in the LCO or dithering ELM just oscillates the transport barrier.
