Warm-Up! Can you believe that Spring has officially begun?!?!
Wednesday, Warm-Up! Can you believe that Spring has officially begun?!?! Turn to page 395 in your text and read about RESONANCE. On a separate sheet of paper, write the following: Describe resonance. Describe a familiar example of resonance. How is it related to forced vibration and natural frequency? title this Warm-Up: Resonance - 3/20/13
2
Resonance is forced vibration at natural frequency.
Every object vibrates at its own set of natural frequencies. When an object such as a sounding board is forced to vibrate by another sound source, it will vibrate at one of its own natural frequencies, and the sound becomes louder.
3
Today's lab: finding resonance to calculate the speed of sound.
Read all the directions carefully and show your calculations. List lab partners at the top. The glass cylinders are very expensive ($55/each), so be careful (have a "spotter"). Note: room temperature is 22 degrees Celsius Be sure to turn in BOTH today's warm-up AND lab (don't staple them together). If you finish early, use the time to complete any previous assignments (Review Questions from book, yesterday's worksheet, etc.)
