1 Classifying Life

2 Living or Non-Living? Remember the Living Processes Notes? #TBT

3 Eukaryotes vs. Prokaryotes
Eukaryotes = organisms with a nucleus Prokaryotes = organisms with no true nucleus

4 Prokaryotes (Kingdom Monera)
Eubacteria Unicellular No nucleus Cell Wall Some can make their own food (autotrophs), some can’t (heterotrophs) Archaebacteria Bacteria that live in extreme conditions – extremophiles Yellowstone geysers, Antarctica, the Great Salt Lake

5 Eukaryotes: Kingdom Plantae
Autotrophic: can make their own food (photosynthesis) Chloroplasts Multicellular Cell Wall – made of Cellulose

6 Eukaryotes: Kingdom Animalia
Can’t make their own food (heterotrophs) – no chloroplasts Multicellular Have a cell membrane but no cell wall

7 Eukaryotes: Kingdom Fungi
Multicellular Have a Cell Wall – made of Chitin Can’t make their own food, they eat by breaking down dead things (saprotroph)

8 Eukaryotes: Kingdom Protista
“Leftovers” Mostly unicellular, but some are multicellular Some have cell walls, some don’t Some have chloroplasts (autotroph), some don’t (heterotroph)
