Theorem 8-3 (Slightly Reworded): If the square of the longest side of a triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides, then the triangle is a right triangle. Theorem 8-3 (Reworded Even More): If… then the triangle is a right triangle.

2 What happens if… If… then the triangle is an acute triangle. If… then the triangle is an obtuse triangle.

3 Examples: Determine whether a triangle exists having side lengths given below. If so, tell whether the triangle is obtuse, acute, or right.
