Presentation on theme: "In-text/parenthetical citations"— Presentation transcript:

1 In-text/parenthetical citations
Whenever you give ANY fact that you learned from your research (paraphrased in your own words, or quoted), you MUST include a citation. The citation will be in parentheses (…). And will be located at the END of your sentence, before the final period of your sentence. Just like you did in your R&J paper! (ii.III.1-19). If you are paraphrasing introduce the source in your first sentence using that source. You don’t need to cite again until you reference information from another source.

2 Parenthetical citations for research
Plays/poems are cited using line numbers, but RESEARCH is cited differently. If from a website: author last name & title in quotes “”: (Chase “George Washington”). If from a website and there is no author: title in quotes “” : (“George Washington”).

3 The only time(s) a parenthetical citation is not needed!!!
When the information or quotes that you used is COMMON KNOWLEDGE!!! For instance this quote: FDR once said, “There is nothing to fear, but fear itself” We ALL have heard this famous quote, and know where it comes from When giving your own opinion
