2 Communism defined: “A way of organizing a society in which the government owns the things that are used to make and transport products (such as land, oil, factories, ships, etc.) and there is no privately owned property.” - Merriam-Webster Dictionary The Communist Party in the USA is a left-wing minor party. The party has an estimated 2,000 members at this time.

3 Historical Background
One of the oldest party leaders was C.E. Ruthenberg. Charles Emil Ruthenberg was a founder and long-time head of the U.S. Communist Party. He was the Executive Secretary from (left photo) And one of the most present leaders is John Bachtell. He is a chairman for the U.S. Communist Party. He has served from 2014-present. (right photo)

The term communism comes from Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto The symbol for the CPUSA is a hammer, a sickle, and a gear to symbolize peaceful labor The color for it is red - the color of the blood of workers who died fighting against capitalism. Founded as the CPUSA in 1919, it was originally the Socialist Labor Party It had 200,000 members at its height (it only has about 2,000 members today) It was mostly destroyed during the Red Scares and McCarthyism times of the USA

5 Stance on abortion The CPUSA stance on abortion is pro-choice.
An unexpected pregnancy can drive a woman/family into an unstable financial situation. They believe that a woman’s ability to choose should be granted.

6 Stance on Immigration The party supports hospitality and supports equal rights for all immigrants. They believe the working immigrants and their families should have full rights. They also want to legalize as many as possible, as quickly as possible. They support the labor movement's position of organizing immigrant workers at their workplace.

7 Stance on Guns The U.S. Communist Party does not have any official stance on gun ownership. They support the second amendment. They also support common sense gun restrictions, but no bans
