Earth is sometimes called the water planet because 74% of its surface is water. Two influences on the many variations in Earth’s water supply. Natural occurrences Human activities.

6 The distribution of water on earth
Earth has the most water of any planet in the solar system. Earth’s water exists naturally in different forms.

7 Drinking water for humans
Humans do not drink salt water. Humans drink fresh water that is potable. Potable water is water that is safe for humans and other organisms to drink.

8 Water is Vital Water is vital for survival of all living things.
Organisms have varying amounts of water in their mass: Humans 65% Apples 84% Watermelon 98%

9 Drinking Water for Humans
How much water do you think is potable for the whole world? On a piece of paper draw a circle. This represents all the water on the Earth. In that circle, hypothesize what percentage is potable and accessible for every land creature on Earth.

10 Water on Earth Fresh water only makes up 3% of all the Earth.
Of that, only 0.003% of all the water on Earth is available for humans to drink. Rest of the water is: Too far below the Earth’s surface. Located too far from human habitats.
