Here’s what I expect you to do as a part of this class. When we all do these things we’ll have an awesome class! I will respond when my name is called. I will respond to polling prompts. I will demonstrate respect for my classmates and teachers. Have students raise their hands to show that they agree w/ and understand the “Terms” Marking yourself “away” means you are not in class and will miss important parts of the lesson. YOU GOT WHAT I NEEEED! Sumer was rich in barley and wheat and they used these goods to trade for other things. They did not have any gold and had only a few precious gems. Sumerian kings and queens wanted to have beautiful jewels to decorate themselves. Unit 3, lesson 4 - Growing Trade

Ships would leave Sumer filled with grain and head to an to other places where they could find and trade precious stones and gold. Sumerians were soon bartering their surplus grain for items they did not have – timber, metals, and stones. Unit 3, lesson 4 - Growing Trade

9 TRADING IS GOOOD! The Sumerians lacked wood, stone and Gems. But they had lots of grain and cloth. They were also able to obtain Gold, Lapis Lazuli, Silver and Copper. They first bartered for what they needed (lumber and stone) but soon moved to a money based system. Trade also means trading ideas with your neighbors. Different religions, sickness, and philosophies also moved down the road with trade.
