1 The Density Problem

2 1. Volume of the Container
The mass of an empty container is 99 g. The mass of the container filled with water is 132 g. What is the volume of the container? Density of water = 1 g/cm3

3 2. Mass of the Object The container is emptied and dried.
A piece of metal is added. The container + metal is found to have a mass of g. What is the mass of the metal?

4 3. Mass of the water Added The container with the metal is filled with water. The mass of container + metal + water is g. What mass of water was added?

5 4. Volume of Water added What volume of water was added in the last step? Mass added was 26.4 g. Remember – density is 1 g/cm3

6 5a. Volume of the metal What is the volume of the mystery metal?

7 5b. What is the density of the mystery metal?
Remember D = m/V
