Flagellum/Cilium Presented by Gary and Brandon
2
A flagellum is a tail-like structure that projects from the cell body of certain prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells which functions in locomotion. Sperm cell Helicobacter Pylori
3
Prokaryotic flagella are protein fibers that extend out from the cell
Prokaryotic flagella are protein fibers that extend out from the cell. These flagella allow bacteria to swim at a rather high rate of speed by rotating their flagella like screws.
4
Eukaryotic flagellum/cilium consists of a circle of 9 microtubule pairs surrounding two central microtubules; this arrangement is referred to as the 9+2 structure.
5
Flagellum moves in a propeller like motion, while Cilia beats back and forth to move mucus, etc. in one direction, ex: cilia lining trachea move dirt and mucus away from lungs.
